Paula Sutton, social media influencer and author, to speak at Kelling Home & Friends

  • Kelling Home & Friends The Old Food Hall, Creake Abbey Fakenham, NR21 9LF UK (map)

Join the creator of @hillhousevintage hosted by Kelling Designs for an informal discussion about Instagram positivity, writing a hit novel and joyful interiors. In aid of The Literacy Project

On Tuesday 17th September, Paula Sutton will host a fantastic morning’s discussion of all things creative – from her successful Instagram account, @hillhousevintage, to her recent debut novel, The Potting Shed Murder, as well as a fabulous look at her favourite interior styles.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Paula Sutton is a stylist, writer, and influencer. 13 years ago Paula left her job in fashion publishing and moved from south London to Hill House in Norfolk with her young family. She started a blog detailing her experiences which grew into an Instagram account celebrating all things vintage across interiors, gardens, cookery and lifestyle. Each post is imbued with Paula’s trademark exuberant and creative style. Now with over 600,000 followers, Paula can either be found in designer wear on the red carpet, hosting friends at her beautiful Norfolk family home, or in her wellies weeding her vegetable patch. Paula has been featured in Sunday Times Style magazine, the Daily Telegraph and the New York Times and she has been a guest on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live programme.

Paula is also a successful author. Having published Hill House Living: The Art of Creating a Joyful Life in 2021, in April 2024 Paula published her first novel, a ‘cosy-crime’ whodunnit, The Potting Shed Murder. Billed as ‘Miss Marple for the 21st Century,’ Paula is now embarking on her second novel.

Paula’s talk will take place at Kelling Home & Friends at Creake Abbey at 9.30am on Tuesday 17th September. Located at Creake Abbey’s retail destination, this beautifully decorated pop-up shop is the brainchild of Kelling Designs, the award-winning interior design studio founded by Norfolk’s own Emma Deterding working from both Norfolk and Chelsea.

Emma and her team have carefully curated a collection of independent local Norfolk brands across fashion, beauty, art, jewellery, home and lifestyle to be part of the pop-up. Kelling Home & Friends opened at Creake Abbey in March 2024. Set within Creake Abbey’s restyled Café and Food Hall, which has been beautifully decorated in Emma’s signature vibrant style, Kelling Home & Friends is now a sumptuous retail and leisure destination that perfectly complements Creake Abbey’s existing rural retail offering of six courtyard boutique shops and services.

Emma will host the morning and, following Paula’s talk, will open the discussion up to an informal Q&A, giving guests a unique opportunity to get to know one of Norfolk’s leading social media influencers.

A limited number of tickets are now on sale via Eventbrite. Tickets are £45 per person and include a fantastic goodie bag with a signed hardback copy of The Potting Shed Murder, as well as discount codes for shops and services across the Creake Abbey site. Guests will be welcomed with coffee, Buck’s Fizz and pastries at 9.30am and Paula’s talk will start soon after. Once the Q&A has finished, guests are invited to stay and join Paula for a delicious lunch provided by Mayu Retreats (for an additional £20) rounding off a fascinating and inspiring morning. Limited tickets for the talk and the lunch are available via Eventbrite.

The event is in aid of The Literacy Project, a fantastic regional charity that challenges the idea that low literacy is inevitable in areas of high deprivation. Funded by The Norfolk Community Foundation, it works with local charity, The Norfolk Reading Project, and The National Literacy Trust, to pilot its vital work in schools in the most deprived areas of Norwich and Thetford.

Paula Sutton, said: ‘I am honoured to have been invited to speak at Kelling Home & Friends about all my favourite things – the positive power of Instagram and the friends I’ve been lucky enough to gain through @hillhousevintage. I passionately believe that Instagram is a real source for good, bringing warmth, laughter and community to so many. I’m also keen to share my experience of writing my first novel and the challenges of writing a second one too. Lastly - a view I share with the wonderful Kelling Designs team – how fabulous, creative interiors can transform your living space into one of joy and inspiration. I’m delighted the event is in aid of The Literacy Project, an important local cause that supports the vital need for improved literacy in its many forms – be it online or in print.’

Emma Deterding of Kelling Designs, said: ‘Paula has a huge, loyal following and it is not hard to see why: her beautiful Norfolk family home is filled with quintessential ‘British vintage’ style and her posts brim with cosy warmth and irresistible lightheartedness. We are delighted to have her with us on 17th September and can’t wait to learn how she sustains her community of 600,000 followers, as well as her experiences of the publishing world and her interior styling tips. Don’t miss this morning of scintillating conversation with the wonderful Paula Sutton at our Creake Abbey pop-up, Kelling Home & Friends.’
